KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The ninth-ranked Georgia men's tennis team had its five-match winning streak snapped with a 5-2 loss at No. 16 Tennessee Saturday afternoon at the UT Varsity Courts in Knoxville. The match was delayed on three occasions due to inclement weather.
"I feel bad for our guys," said Georgia head coach Manuel Diaz. "They have come such a long way, but we are still headed in the right direction. We just need to continue to improve."
The Vols (12-6, 5-4 SEC) got on the board first after sweeping the doubles point. With the point already secured by Tennessee, the Georgia tandem of Bo Hodge and John Isner retired due to back pains suffered by Isner.
"It is unfortunate for John, but his back tightened up on him," added Diaz. "We had three rain delays, and at some point his back just tightened. Although he could hardly move, he continued to play with a lot of heart out there."
