ATHENS, Ga. -- Georgia swimmer Randy Lam was named the Southeastern Conference Male Swimmer of the Week as announced by the league office. The senior from Royal Oak, Mich., won two events for the Bulldogs in the regular-season finale at South Carolina.
Lam won two events to lead the Bulldogs to a 182-116 victory against South Carolina last Saturday in Columbia. Lam led a 1-2-3 finish in the 200-yard butterfly, touching first in 1:49.74. He again earned top honors by clocking a time of 3:59.17 to win the 400-yard individual medley.
"It is a well deserved award for Randy," said Georgia coach Jack Bauerle. "He has been a great senior that has rededicated himself to training this year, and I think his best performances are yet to come. We are real excited about what he is doing, not only in the MI but also the fly. We feel he is going to be one of our leaders at both the SECs and NCAAs."
"He gets the most out of (the talent) he has been given, and to his credit, he is a great competitor," added Bauerle. "I think this year he is in better shape than ever."
Lam's pair of victories helped lead Georgia to a 9-2 regular season, just the program's third nine-win season in the last 23 years. The Bulldogs last won nine meets during the 2000-01 campaign (9-3). The victory also helped the Bulldogs avenged a 123-120 loss suffered two years ago against the Gamecocks in Columbia.
Andy Bradley, from the University of South Carolina, was named the SEC Male Diver of the Week, while Megan Tomes (Tennessee) and Mandy Moran (Arkansas) earned Swimmer and Diver of the Week honors, respectively.
