Pups Stun Dogs 4-3 WIth Ninth Inning Rally

ATHENS-----Sophomore third baseman Winton Mays' bases-loaded triple off closer Will Startup rallied the Pups to a 4-3 win Friday night at Foley Field.

The Dogs carried a 3-0 lead going to the ninth and turned the game over to Startup. Freshman catcher Clay Whittemore, freshman outfielder Clay Kelly and senior transfer Justin Niefer all singled off the left-hander to load the bases. Junior transfer Matthew Dunn's infield single scored Whittemore to make it 3-1. Mays followed with an opposite field shot down the right field line to clear the bases and give the Pups a 4-3 advantage.

"Coach Perno says big hits come when you go to the opposite field, and so I went with it and did it," said Mays.
