ATHENS, Ga.--The Georgia cross country teams may be at the midpoint of their 2004 season, but this weekend's meet will put them in a postseason frame of mind.
On Saturday, the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs will get a look at the site of this year's NCAA Championships as they participate in the NCAA Pre-Nationals on the campus of Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Ind. Ninety of the nation's top teams are expected to participate in the three men's races and the three women's races.
"It's a great opportunity for our teams to see how we stack up with other teams," Georgia coach Dave Hartman said. "We're making improvement each day. A race like this will be a good test and a good gauge of our teams."
The women's 6,000-meter races will begin at 11 a.m., with the men's 8,000-meter races to follow at approximately 12:10 p.m. Georgia has been led in each of its last two events by Simon Ngata and Jill Steffens.
After the NCAA Pre-Nationals, the Georgia squads will turn their attention to the SEC Championships Oct. 30 in Fayetteville, Ark. In November, the squads will compete in the NCAA Regional in Tuscaloosa, Ala., in an attempt to qualify for the NCAAs in Terre Haute.
