Following a sweep of the UGA/Nike Tournament, last weekend, the Georgia soccer team (7-3-0) will open the SEC portion of its schedule, 7 p.m., Friday, against #24 Ole Miss, at UGA Soccer Complex, off South Milledge Avenue, in Athens. The Bulldogs then will host Mississippi State on Sunday. That kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m., and there is no admission charge. This will be the eighth meeting of the Bulldogs and Ole Miss, with Georgia leading the series 4-3-0. The Rebels won last year's match, 3-0. The Bulldogs hold a 5-0 series edge against Mississippi State, including last year's 3-2 victory.
About Georgia...
Georgia opens SEC play with a three-match shutout streak, dating back to its Sept. 21, 1-0 win, against Stanford. The Bulldogs shutout Liberty, 8-0, and Georgia Southern, 3-0, in last weekend's UGA/Nike Tournament. Georgia's defense held Liberty to two shots, Friday, and limited Georgia Southern to just three shots, Sunday. Freshman defender Marilee Eback anchored that defense and was named the UGA/Nike Tournament's Defensive MVP. Bulldogs' forward Jessica Winton broke a school record with four goals and nine points in Friday's win against Liberty that saw the Georgia offense post a season-best eight goals. Winton also scored the game-winner--her season's fifth-- against Georgia Southern, Sunday. Winton, the UGA/Nike Tournament's Offensive MVP, leads Georgia with 11 goals and 24 points this season.
