ATHENS, Ga.--The Georgia mens cross country team took first place honors from a field of eight teams while the women placed second out of nine teams at the Bulldog Stampede held at the University of Georgia Golf Course Saturday.

Paced by junior college transfer Simon Ngata who won the 8K race in a time of 25:44.84, the Bulldogs tallied 35 points to top Florida who finished second with 46 points and Clemson who was third with 57 points.

With Georgias upperclassmen competing for the first time this season, the team placed five runners among the top 15 finishers. 2002 First-Team All-SEC senior Phillip Bett finished third in a time of 25:56.07 behind Ngata and Florida junior Stephen Zieminski (25:46.07). Senior Ian Dickenson placed seventh overall and third for the Bulldogs, covering the course in 26:07.96, followed by sophomore Grant Eichenlaub in 11th place overall with a 26:19.20, and sophomore Mike Swope in 15th with a 26:43.79.
