GAINESVILLE, FLA. -- University of Georgia junior Agata Cioroch cruised to the round of 16 in singles as well as in doubles with Lori Grey Tuesday here at the NCAA Championships.

Cioroch, seeded fourth and ranked third nationally, posted a straight-set win over 13th-ranked Kate Pinchbeck (North Carolina), winning 6-3, 6-4. She will face sophomore Dea Sumantri (Washington) Wednesday. Cioroch is now 30-4 while Sumantri is 30-9.

Cioroch said her singles match was one of the most difficult this week.

"She was playing very good, putting every ball back into play and making me work very hard for every point," said Cioroch. It might have been a straight set match, but the score doesn't indicate how tough a match it was."

Cioroch added she is getting more confident with each match and playing better as well. In doubles, the Cioroch/Grey tandem outlasted the Florida duo of Lindsay Dawaf and Julie Rotondi 6-1,4-6,6-1 to move on to the round of 16. The Georgia duo, ranked second nationally, improved to 19-3 on the year. They will face the Tulane tandem of Julie Smekodub and Jenny Kuhn Wednesday. They were forced to three sets by the Oklahoma duo of Heather Saluri and Anda Perianu.

Grey said they knew going in they were in for a challenge facing the Lady Gator team on their home court.

"We needed to attack and stay aggressive throughout the match," said Grey. "We know we have to play it one match at a time and that we've had a great year but it's all about staying on the attack and playing well at the net."
