UGA Soccer Adds Darvill

ATHENS, Ga.- University of Georgia women's soccer head coach Sue Patberg announced Friday that Sarah Darvill has signed a national letter of intent to study and compete at the University of Georgia next year.

Darvill, from Bogart, Ga., was named PEPSI/ATHENS BANNER HERALD Northeast Georgia Prep Athlete of the Year for girls soccer as a junior.

The local player from Athens Academy served as team co-captain in 2002 and was named to the PEPSI/ATHENS BANNER HERALD All-Northeast Georgia team three years in a row. Darvill helped Athens Academy to the three consecutive region titles and to the state finals in 2002. She also ran cross country, winning the class A individual state title and leading Athens Academy to the team title in 2002, She was named PEPSI/ATHENS BANNER HERALD Cross Country Runner of the Year as a junior and senior. She placed second as a junior, fourth as a sophomore and third as a freshman at the state cross country meet.

"Sarah is energetic and has a strong work ethic," Patberg said. "She's a local product that we're pleased is coming to Georgia."
