ANN ARBOR, MICH. -- Georgia senior Agata Cioroch captured her second career grand slam singles title, winning the ITA National Indoor Championship Sunday.

Cioroch, ranked number one nationally, successfully defended her indoor title with a 6-3,6-1 victory over Oklahoma's Anda Perianu at the Varsity Tennis Center. Cioroch joins Stanford's Laura Granville (2000-01) as the only other repeat champion in tournament history. Also, Cioroch joins former standout Lisa Spain as the only Bulldogs in school history to win two grand slam singles titles in their career. Spain won the 1983 Riviera All-American Championships and the 1984 NCAA title.

Cioroch overcame a slow start and was a point away from falling behind 3-0 before she broke back to trail only 2-1. Then, Perianu got the break right back for a 3-1 advantage. Cioroch answered with a break of her own and then held serve to even the first set at three all. Cioroch converted her next break opportunity for her first lead and seized control of the match.
