Cross Country Teams to Compete Next at NCAA Pre Nationals

Both the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs are off this weekend and will next compete at the NCAA Pre Nationals, in Waterloo, Iowa, October 18.

The Bulldogs won their third consecutive meet last weekend at the OSU Cowboy Invitational, hosted by Oklahoma State, in Stillwater. The Bulldogs (85 points) defeated second-place #4 Arkansas (94 points) by nine points, ending a streak of 13 years that the Razorbacks have not been beaten by an SEC opponent.

Junior college transfer Simon Ngata once again led the Bulldogs, finishing fourth overall in the 8K-competition in 24:11. The Bulldogs placed three other runners in the top 25 out of the 25-team, 222-participant field: Philip Bett (24:33) placed eighth and Ian Burrell and Mike Swope finished in 25:02 and in 24th and 25th place, respectively.

The Lady Bulldogs posted a second-place finish with 105 points, 12 points back of first-place Texas Tech (93). Sophomore Kelly Cordell led Georgia, finishing seventh in 21:30. The Lady Bulldogs placed three other runners in the top 20: Kristin Heffelfinger placed 14th in 21:48 while Jill Steffens and Lauren Burks each posted times of 21:53, finishing 15th and 16th, respectively.
