SEC-TV - Thursday, 10/23 at 6:30 p.m. EDT;
re-airs Friday, 10/24 at 12:30 a.m.
SEC-TV, Fox Sports Net's live, weekly Southeastern Conference studio program, continues on Thursday, 10/23 at 6:30 p.m. EDT (re-airs on Friday, 10/24 at 12:30 a.m.). The show originates from FSN's Atlanta studio, where host Dave Neal is joined in studio by reporter Jenn Hildreth.
On Thursday's show, Hildreth profiles Auburn sophomore running back Tre Smith. Playing alongside SEC heavyweights such as Carnell "Cadillac" Williams, Smith may sometimes be the forgotten man on a deep running back corps, which includes Brandon Jacobs and Ronnie Brown. However, Smith has excelled, scoring four touchdowns on 23 carries, to average 3.2 yards per rush this season. Smith discusses his thoughts on the Tigers' season, how he fits into AU's offensive scheme, and his favorite pastime - snowboarding. Tiger fans may recall Smith's "coming out party" against powerhouse Alabama in 2002, when he rushed for 126 yards on 25 carries.
"Home Field presented by BC Powder" focuses upon players' and coaches' thoughts on Alabama's Bryant-Denny Stadium. With the spirit of legendary former head coach Paul "Bear" Bryant still inspiring Crimson Tide players and haunting opponents, this hallowed football temple continues to add to its mystique. From the fabled "Million Dollar Band, to "Big Al" - UA's red elephant mascot, to the 83,000 "Roll Tide" denizens who weekly stoke the Crimson and White's flames, Bryant-Denny Stadium wears well its 74 years of service. Remodeled and expanded over the years, the facility has seen Tide squads win 83 percent of their games (191-35-3).
Also on Thursday's show, Jefferson Pilot Sports reporter Dave Baker spotlights The Big Oak Ranch. Founded by former Alabama standout John Croyle and his wife Tee in 1974, the ranch has expanded to include three facilities - (1) a boy's ranch (Gadsden), (2) girl's ranch (Springville), and (3) Westbrook Christian School (Rainbow City) - all intended to provide, loving, Christian homes to abused and orphaned children. After having a conversation with Paul "Bear" Bryant, Croyle decided to bypass the riches of the NFL and follow his true calling to help children in need. John and Tee raised son Brodie Croyle (current Tide quarterback) and daughter Reagan (former Tide women's basketball player) within the confines of the ranch, and both of their children are active in its operations.
Florida's Keiwan Ratliff is the "Advance Auto Parts Player of the Week." In last Saturday's 33-28 nail-biting win over then-No. 11 ranked Arkansas - which pushed UF back into the nation's top 25, the senior cornerback collected nine tackles (all solo), three pass deflections, and three interceptions - the third of which he returned for a 44-yard touchdown to put the Gators up 33-7. Ratliff leads the SEC in INT's (6) and pass break ups (5). Also of note, Ratliff became UF's all-time punt return yardage leader (784), with 21 yards on three tries against the Razorbacks.
SEC-TV analyst Phil Bush travels around the conference to take an in-depth look at all the volleyball happenings, and Dave (Neal) reports "What's Hot" in the SEC. Completing this week's show are the "BC Powder Quick Question of the Week" for SEC coaches and the SECKids.com fun fact.
