ATHENS, Ga. --- Six current Georgia swimmers and four former swimmers have been selected to represent the United States in three international competitions in 2003 according to USA Swimming.

"It was another successful summer for our athletes," said Georgia head coach Jack Bauerle. "And we could not be more proud of this, as they represent well here and will represent Georgia overseas as well."

Former Georgia star Kristy Kowal will join current Lady Bulldogs Maritza Correia and Mary DeScenza at the 2003 FINA World Championships, which are set to take place July 15-29, 2002 in Barcelona, Spain. Kowal, who won the 100-meter breaststroke at the U.S. Senior Nationals this summer, captured a silver medal in the 50-meter breaststroke at the 2001 FINA World Championships.

August will begin with 28-time All-American Courtney Shealy and junior Kyle Salyards participating in the 2003 Pan-American Games in Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic (Aug. 1-17, 2003). The summer rounds out with five athletes with Georgia ties competing at the 2003 World University Games in Daegu, Korea, August 21-31, 2003. Former standouts Ashley Roby and Stefanie Williams, who were members of the Lady Bulldogs' three national champion teams, will be in action along with current Bulldogs Robert Margalis, Andrew Mahaney and Julie Hardt. Mahaney won a gold medal by leading a 1-2 U.S. finish in the 200-meter butterfly at the 2001 World University Games in Beijing.
