Diamond Dog Summer Update

ATHENS-----Summer is underway and several Bulldogs are playing around the country and one is suiting up for his country.
Georgia catcher Clint Sammons has appeared in three games with one start for the USA Baseball National Team. He has been solid behind the plate with a 1.000 fielding percentage (16 putouts, two assists and one pickoff). He has one RBI in six at bats. Team USA is now 5-2 on the 2002 Red, White and Blue Tour after winning the 31st annual USA vs. Japan Collegiate All-Star series, a five-game set that finished up in Trenton, N.J. Thursday. The USA team now faces various collegiate summer league teams in Connecticut, Ohio, Rhode Island and Massachustetts before departing for the Netherlands in mid-July for an international tournament followed by the FISU World Championships in Italy in early August.
Elsewhere, Georgia's Lee Mitchell has helped Cotuit off to the best start in Cape Cod League history. They are leading the league with a 14-2-2 mark including a 13-0 start. Mitchell leads the elite wood-bat league in RBI with 15 and is second in home runs with four. Josh Smith started the Central Illinois Collegiate League All-Star game as a member of the Danville Dans. He is among the league leaders in batting at .301. His club is leading the Eastern Division as he has made starts around the infield.
