July 24, 2002 | Football

University of Georgia walkon football players Braxton Snyder, Jarrett Berry and Burt Jones have been awarded scholarships by Bulldog head coach Mark Richt

Snyder, senior fullback from Lexington, Ky., served as a backup fullback last season and is currently listed as the number two fullback on the Bulldog pre-season depth chart.

Berry, junior wide receiver from Lyons, Ga., caught a touchdown pass vs. Houston last season and was the leading receiver in the annual G-Day game this past spring with three catches for 91 yards.

Jones, a senior roverback from Jackson, Ga., served as a back-up in the Bulldog secondary last season. Jones' contributions came mainly on special teams. He saw action in all 11 games tallying nine total tackles. Jones also saw playing time the 2001 Music City Bowl versus Boston College.

"There is a great tradition of walkons earning scholarships at Georgia, most recently Verron Haynes and J.T. Wall," said Richt. "Brax has been here five years and has earned his stripes by working his way up to a position of being a solid contributor. Jarrett has been impressive at the wide receiver position last fall and this past spring.

All three athletes are very deserving of scholarships and it's always a pleasant opportunity for a coach to reward players for hard work."
