ATHENS-----University of Georgia outfielder Chaz Lytle has been named to the 2002 American Baseball Coaches Association first-team All-South Region, the ABCA committee announced recently.
The 6-1, 195-pound native of Sanford, Fla., was one of the three outfielders on the 14-member squad along with Alabama senior Scott McClanahan and Morehead State senior Bubba Lavender. There are 34 coaches in the ABCA South Region who select a first and second team squad. The first-team selections are automatically nominated for the All-America teams that will be announced at the conclusion of the College World Series.
Lytle, a first team All-Southeastern Conference selection, led the Bulldogs in batting at .387 and set Georgia single season records with 108 hits and 31 stolen bases. Earlier this month, Lytle was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates but has announced plans to return to UGA for his senior season.
