ATHENS, Ga. - The University of Georgia soccer team's 2002 schedule was announced Tuesday by head coach Sue Patberg. Georgia will again face several strong out-of-conference opponents in addition to the challenging Southeastern Conference schedule.
The Bulldogs, coming off their seventh consecutive winning season (13-6-1, 7-2-0 SEC) and a trip to the NCAA tournament second round, will face several schools that made the 2001 NCAA tournament and/or were ranked in the final National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll.
Georgia will again face Florida State, an NCAA second round qualifier and ranked 20th in the final NSCAA poll, in a preseason scrimmage on Aug. 23 at 7 p.m. in Athens. The Bulldogs officially open the 2002 season at home with Clemson, an NCAA third round participant and ranked 11th in the final NSCAA poll, on Friday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m.- the evening before Georgia's other football squad faces Clemson at Sanford Stadium.
