ATHENS, Ga. -- University of Georgia student-athlete Ashley Lindley was one of 12 University freshman, six females and six males, recently inducted into the Tate Honor Society. Lindley is the first athlete in Georgia soccer history to be inducted into the society.
Induction into the Tate Honor Society is based on academic achievement, community service and campus involvement. The society's mission is to recognize freshman students who have made a contribution to the UGA community through their social involvement and academic excellence in the tradition of William Tate, a Georgia graduate, instructor and dean over a span from 1920 into the '60's.
Lindley, a goalkeeper from Spring, Texas, helped the Bulldog soccer team reach the NCAA second round in the fall of 2001. She started 17 of the 20 games she played, posting a 1.52 goals against average with 46 saves and three shutouts. Lindley has also served on UGA's Student-Athlete Advisory Council and volunteered to speak at local elementary schools. She is majoring in Pre-Medicine.
"We're very proud and excited for Ashley on this accomplishment," Georgia head soccer coach Sue Patberg said. "It's a great achievement and she's very deserving of it. She's worked hard."
