ATHENS, Ga. -- Former University of Georgia goalkeeper Nicole Williams will make her first professional career start Sunday May 5 as her team, the New York Power, hosts the San Jose Cyber Rays at 6 p.m. ET. Williams made her official Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA) debut April 27 in the closing minutes of the Power's home opener versus the Philadelphia Charge.
Following their game versus the Charge, New York will travel to Atlanta to face the Beat on Saturday, May 11 at 7 p.m. Both games will be televised regionally on the Madison Square Garden Network.
Williams, one of the top players in Georgia and SEC soccer history, is the first Georgia soccer player to be drafted, play and start in the WUSA, now in it's second season of existence. In her Georgia career, Williams became the SEC leader in shutouts (29.5), saves (373) and consecutive shutouts (eight, 8/27/99-9/19/99). As a senior, she was named to the All-SEC First Team, SEC All-Tournament Team and selected to the NSCAA All-Southeast Region First Team.
