Gym Dogs Advance to NCAA Super Six

Tuscaloosa, Ala. --- Despite throwing an injury-riddled lineup on the floor, the five-time NCAA Champion Georgia Gym Dogs lived to fight another day as they scored a 196.650 to finish in second place at the first preliminary of the 2002 NCAA Championships, taking place at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Winning the first preliminary were the nine-time NCAA Champion Utah Utes, who scored a 196.775. Finishing in third place and the last of the three teams from the session to qualify for Friday night's NCAA Super Six were the Nebraska Cornhuskers, who scored a 196.575. Taking fourth place was Michigan (196.175), followed by LSU (195.85) and Arizona (194.975). The other three teams will be decided from tonight's competition which will feature Alabama, UCLA, Florida, Minnesota, Stanford and Oregon State.
