Scouting Report And Gym Notes

This weekend should provide another nail biter for all of the fans. LSU may well represent the biggest challenge we have faced all year. They are a very well disciplined team that seems to be peaking at the right time, and are fully capable of breaking the 197 mark on any given night. In fact, last week they scored a 197.5 against Kentucky.
Names to watch for from this team include, Kristen Uransky (vault), Marina Degteva (vault), Brooke Cazeaux (bars), Lauren Camponioni (beam and floor), Beth Boudreaux (beam), and Sharene Mamby (bars). All of these gymnasts have an RQS of 9.8+ on the corresponding event.
The key to this team seems to be that they are virtually all two or three event specialists. In fact, not one LSU gymnast has competed enough in the All-Around to have an RQS. This has allowed their staff to emphasize the strengths of each of their athletes, and it is beginning to pay big dividends.
Look for this to be a very tight meet right down to the wire, and do not be suprised if LSU winds up in the top two at SEC's in two weeks.
On our end, practice has gone pretty well following a disappointing performance in Florida. It is our hope that this team realizes that it can't mess around and expect to beat the best teams in the country. We will now begin to find out what our team is made of in terms of guts. We as a staff have increased the amount of pressure in the gym, and many members of our team have responded.
Look for a couple of suprise performances on the uneven bars from a couple of faces you haven't seen there in a while. They may be in the line-up or they may go exhibition. That decision will be a meet time decision.
The good news is that there are no new injuries of any kind to report, and I believe that is a first.
BRING THE NOISE IN THERE ON FRIDAY NIGHT! This team , more than most, feeds off of our fans. GO DOGS!
