ATHENS, Ga. ----- University of Georgia gymnast Cassie Bair suffered a patella dislocation to her right knee and is expected to miss at least the next two weeks according to team physicians.
"This is a huge blow to our team right now considering the timing," said Georgia coach Suzanne Yoculan. "Cassie has been such an important part of our team this year. She is by far the most improved gymnast on the team from last season."
Bair, a junior from Evans, Ga., will be forced to miss the 2002 SEC Championships which take place March 23 in Birmingham, Ala.
"It seems like we have been dealing with injuries all season long. First it was Melinda Baimbridge (torn rotator cuff), then Chelsa Byrd (fractured finger), and Kinsey Rowe (foot), and so many other little injuries that have plagued this team all season long. However our team has still found a way to get through it. We are No. 1 heading into the SEC Championships and I have no doubt they will step up and meet this challenge."
Bair suffered the injury while practicing on beam during Monday's practice.
The former walk-on has been one of Georgia's top performers on three events < vault,="" bars,="" beam="">< and="" has="" established="" herself="" as="" one="" of="" the="" top="" beam="" performers="" in="" the="" nation.="" she="" has="" scored="" a="" 9.9="" or="" higher="" on="" beam="" in="" six="" of="" her="" last="" eight="" competitions="" and="" is="" currently="" ranked="" no.="" 7="" in="" the="" nation.="" bair="" has="" hit="" all="" 32="" of="" her="" routines="" for="" the="" gym="" dogs="" this="" season.="">
