Georgia Sweeps Fun and Sun Classic
Michelle Tyree batted .562 and Kristen Bell hit two homeruns, as the Georgia Bulldogs took all five games at Florida International's Fun and Sun Classic last weekend in Miami. Georgia knocked off Kentucky, 9-2 and 4-3, Illinois State, 9-5, and Florida International, 4-0 and 1-0, for the tournament title.
The Dogs got off to a fast start on Friday, scoring 11 runs and allowing just two to Kentucky and FIU. Bell hit her first homerun as a Bulldog against Kentucky and Lacey Gardner shutout FIU, striking out four and walking none. On Saturday, the Dogs again posted nine runs on the board, winning over Illinois State. A homerun by Kim Wendland sparked the offense. It took extra innings for Georgia to knock off Kentucky in a second meeting with the Wildcats, but Nicole Barber's game-winning single in the eighth gave the Dogs their first extra-inning win of the year.
