ATHENS, Ga. ----- University of Georgia sophomore gymnast Marline Stephens was named the Southeastern Conference's Gymnast of the Week, according to an announcement made by the SEC office on Tuesday.
Stephens came through with an outstanding performance on Friday night in helping the No. 1 Georgia Gym Dogs to a 197.2-196.95 victory over the No. 3 Alabama Crimson Tide.
Stephens posted a pair of 9.975s to take first place in both the vault and floor events, in addition to scoring a 9.9 on beam, which was good for third place.
"Marline had a great meet on Friday and that was one of the biggest reasons we were able to win the competition," said Georgia coach Suzanne Yoculan. "Without Sierra Sapunar in the lineup we needed some other kids to step up and Marline did just that."
The Gym Dogs return to action on Fri., Mar. 1 when they take on the No. 14 Florida Gators in Gainesville, Fla.
