Play Ball, Georgia Opens Up in Savannah

Georgia opens up this Friday against North Carolina at the inaugural Memorial Health Diamond Classic in Savannah, Ga. The Bulldogs will play North Carolina (Friday at 12:30 pm), Connecticut (Saturday at 11 am) and host Armstrong Atlantic State (Sunday at 2 pm) in the event held at historic Grayson Stadium. The park serves as home of the Savannah Sand Gnats, the Class A team of the Texas Rangers.

Saturday will mark the the 115th season of Georgia baseball with an all-time record of 1,727-1,284-22.
Bulldog baseball is the oldest varsity sport on campus as it dates back to 1886.
The David Perno era begins as the first-year coach and Bulldog alumnus directs the Bulldogs in 2002.
Georgia has won its last four season openers. Winthrop in 1997 is the the last team to hand the Bulldogs a defeat in an opener. The Bulldogs last began a season on the road in 1996 when they played a three-game series against Jacksonville going 1-2.
