Nobody can replace the first. That is the reason Lucy Wener's name is etched in gymnastics history. In 1989, Wener became the first ever to score a perfect 10.0 in the NCAA Championships. The list of firsts continues. As a freshman Wener became the first Georgia gymnast to win an individual title. In 1987, she led the Bulldogs to their first NCAA national team championship and led them to their second title again in 1989. In 2000, Lucy Wener became the first Georgia gymnast to be inducted to the University of Georgia's prestigious Circle of Honor.

"Personally becoming the first gymnast to score a 10.0 at the NCAA Championships was very exciting for me. I will always remember the silence of the crowd during my bar routine and then the thunder of the cheers when I landed my dismount. It was truly amazing and the fans were always there. They were loyal and genuine and many became friends," described Wener.

"Being inducted into the Circle of Honor happened much later, yet it is a memory I hold dear to my heart. With the support of Suzanne and Doug and the entire athletic department I feel honored to be the first gymnast inducted," said Wener.
