Bulldogs sign two quality players for next season
Georgia men's tennis coach Manuel Diaz announced the signing of two student-athletes during the early signing period last week. John Isner from Greensboro, N.C., and Ricardo Gonzalez from Puerto Rico each signed letters of intent to study and compete at the University next year.

Isner, who is currently a senior at Greensboro Page High School, has been ranked in the top 10 of the national rankings and will enter the upcoming season as No. 3 player in the country. He is ranked No. 115 in the ITF World Junior Rankings. He was a doubles finalist at the National Clay Court Championship and the Junior National Championships in Kalamazoo, Mich., the past year after winning the clay court doubles title in 2001. He was also a singles semifinalist at the National Clay Court Championship. At the 2002 Junior U.S. Open, Isner reached the third round in doubles and fell in the second round of singles action to the No. 1 seed on the grandstand court.

Isner, who stands six-foot-seven, is the youngest of three sons for Robert and Karen Isner. He has trained under the direction of coach Oscar Blacutt for many years. Gonzalez, who is originally from Puerto Rico, is in his third year at Saddlebrook Prep in Tampa. He was the runner-up in four tournaments, including the Easter Bowl, International Hard Court and National Clay Court Championships. He has been ranked in the top five nationally in both the 14- and 16-under divisions, and he is ranked No. 30 in the country in his first year in the 18-under division.
