Hodge and Boeker head to Omni Hotels Regional Championships
Bo Hodge and Nicolas Boeker will be the Georgia representatives at the 2002 Omni Hotels Regional Championships that is set to begin Oct. 25 in Lexington, Ky. The three-day event will be hosted by Kentucky and will be used to qualify participants for the Omni Hotels National Indoor Championships (singles and doubles) that will take place in November in Dallas.
A qualifying portion of the tournament will be played Oct. 24 with the main draw set to begin Oct. 25. Both Hodge and Boeker are in the main draw. Singles and doubles draws will be available Oct. 22. Complete results can be found at www.itatennis.com throughout the tournament.
Georgia has been quite successful in the annual regional tournament, as Brandon Wagner won the event in 2001, and Matias Boeker and Lesley Joseph were co-champions in 2000. Mikael Pernfors was Georgia's first regional champion in 1983.
SEC Champion Dogs honored at halftime
Members of the 2001-02 team were on hand at the Saturday football game against Vanderbilt to receive their 2002 Southeastern Conference championship rings on the field at halftime. The title marked the 22nd for Georgia since 1971, which is the most of any SEC school in any sport in that span of time.
