University of Georgia senior linebacker Boss Bailey has been named to the semi-finalist list of 11 candidates for this year's Butkus Award.
The award is presented annually to the nation's best collegiate linebacker.
Bailey and Bradie James of LSU are the only representatives from the Southeastern Conference on the semi-finalist list.
Bailey, a native of Folkston, Ga., was named pre-season All-American and First-Team All-SEC by The Sporting News, as well as First-Team All-SEC by Football News, Lindy's and the SEC media.
He is currently the team leader in tackles with 72 (37 solo, 35 assists).
Bailey has totaled 10+ tackles in five games this year, including a career-high 14 tackles in Georgia's 31-28 season-opening win over Clemson on Aug. 31., where he earned SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
The Butkus Award is regarded as one of the most elite individual honors in college football.
Created in 1985 by the Downtown Athletic Club of Orlando Inc., the Butkus Award carries the name and support of one of the greatest middle linebackers in football history, Dick Butkus.
Finalists will be announced Nov. 12 with the winner being announced at the Butkus Award Presentation Ceremony on Dec. 12, 2002.
