Three UGA Student-Athletes Suspended Pending Outcome Of Investigation

Two University of Georgia basketball players and one Bulldog football player have been indefinitely suspended from their respective teams pending the outcome of an investigation into an incident at McWhorter Hall Monday night.

UGA basketball coach Jim Harrick has suspended junior guard Tony Cole and sophomore forward Steve Thomas while Georgia football coach Mark Richt suspended junior defensive back Brandon Williams pending conclusion of the ongoing investigation by the UGA Police Department, UGA Student Affairs, and the Athletic Association.

Cole, a top reserve from Baton Rouge, La., is averaging 5.6 points and 2.3 assists per game while Thomas, a starter from Carrollton, Ga., is averaging 8.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Williams, a reserve football defensive back from Moss Point, Miss., recorded 13 total tackles and one interception during the 2001 season.
