Dogs' Assistant Michael Hunt Named Head Coach At Towson

Michael Hunt, an assistant coach for the past four seasons at Georgia and a 7-year veteran of the SEC, has been named head basketball coach at Towson University, according to an announcement Friday afternoon by officials at the school in Towson, Md.
Hunt became the tenth head coach in Towson basketball history. He also started his full-time coaching career there, serving under Terry Truax from 1988 until 1992, during which the Tigers made their last two NCAA Tournament appearances.
"I'm excited to be starting my head coaching career at Towson because this is where it all started," Hunt said. "I am thankful to Coach (Jim) Harrick and to all the coaches who helped guide my career over the past 15 years. At Towson, I think we have a great opportunity to succeed, as we start competing next season in the Colonial Athletic Association."
Towson, formerly a member of the America East Conference, will join Richmond, Virginia Commonwealth, James Madison, Old Dominion, William & Mary, George Mason and UNC-Wilmington in the Colonial league next season.
For Harrick, a 21-year head coach, Hunt becomes the 12th of his assistants to earn a head-coaching post.
"Michael has prepared for the opportunity to be a head coach for 15 years," Harrick said. "He is enthusiastic, energetic and a tireless worker. He has learned from some terrific coaches and he is more than qualified to be a college head coach. Michael is returning to Towson as a more mature, more experienced person, and that will make him a better coach. I think that he is going to do an outstanding job at Towson."
