Georgia's Brandon Wagner will head to Farmers Branch, Texas, this week for the Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships that begins Thursday, Nov. 8, at the Brookhaven Country Club located just outside of Dallas. Wagner received an automatic bid by making the finals of the regional championship. He topped Tennessee's Mario Toledo in three sets to win the event.
Wagner has amassed a 14-2 singles record on the year and has won eight straight matches. The Omni Hotels Regional Championship was the second tournament victory of Wagner's career. He won the Georgia Tech Fall Invitational as a sophomore. Wagner, who is ranked No. 37 in the ITA preseason national rankings, has posted a 6-2 record against players ranked in the top 100. Both losses came against players ranked in the top 15. Wagner has two victories against players ranked in the top 20 (Toledo, No. 16, and Southern Collegiate singles champion Romain Ambert of Mississippi State, No. 17, both in the regional championship). The Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Indoor Championship, the nation's premier collegiate indoor tennis tournaments, is the second of three national championship events for college tennis this season. The first event - the ITA Men's All-American Championship - was held last month, and the third event is the season-ending NCAA Championships in May.
