KNOXVILLE, Tenn. --- Georgia men's tennis player Brandon Wagner topped third-seeded Romain Ambert of Mississippi State in three sets to advance to the final of the Omni Hotels Regional Championship at the Varsity Courts at the University of Tennessee. Wagner will face No. 2 seed Mario Toledo of Tennessee in the final at 9 a.m. Monday.

Ambert, who won the Southern Collegiate Championships singles title earlier this fall in Athens and currently ranked No. 17 in the ITA national rankings, took the first set 6-2 against Wagner, who is the No. 8 seed in the tournament. Wagner, a junior from Tampa, Fla., battled back to take the second set 6-4, sending the match to a third and deciding set. Both men fought point after point, with Wagner coming out on top, 7-6 in the final set.

"Not only was it a great win, but it was a breakthrough win for Brandon," said head coach Manuel Diaz. "He is learning he can compete with the top players in the country, and he is proving that now."
