Tech Game In Atlanta Rescheduled For Wednesday

April 24, 2018 | Baseball

ATHENS----- Due to inclement weather and field conditions, today's University of Georgia baseball game against Georgia Tech in Atlanta has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 25 at 7 p.m. at Russ Chandler Stadium.

The 20th ranked Bulldogs (27-13) have won four straight over Georgia Tech (22-19) after sweeping the series last year and then recording a 4-0 victory on April 3 this season in Athens. Georgia is aiming to win five in a row over Tech for the first time since a stretch from 1985-87.

The Bulldogs just became the first SEC team this season to play 11 consecutive games against ranked opponents, and they went 5-6. This week marks the first time in a month that Georgia will play four straight games against teams that are not ranked in the Top 25. After the Tech game, the Bulldogs play host to Tennessee (24-1, 7-11 SEC) starting Friday.

The probable pitching matchup for Wednesday will feature Bulldog freshman left-hander C.J. Smith (0-0, 0.00 ERA) versus Tech freshman left-hander Brant Hurter (4-2, 5.75 ERA). Hurter started against the Bulldogs earlier this season, going 6.1 innings and allowing three runs on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts in Georgia's 4-0 win. Four Bulldogs combined on a four-hit shutout with 14 strikeouts with Kevin Smith picking up the win in relief. He struck out a career-high nine in 4.1 innings. C.J. Smith will be making his second career start as a pitcher. Also, he has started seven games in centerfield, one as a DH and owns a .278 batting average with one home run and 3 RBI in 36 at bats.

All Georgia baseball games are available on the Bulldog Sports Network from IMG and additionally, Wednesday's road contest will be streamed online via ACC Network Extra.

Also of note, this year's Georgia-Ga. Tech baseball game at SunTrust Park, slated for May 8 at 7 p.m., will be televised live on the SEC Network. The neutral site game is also known the 16thannual Farmview Market Spring Classic that benefits Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. The Bulldogs hold a 10-5 edge in this event including an 8-7 win last season at SunTrust Park after 14 years at Turner Field.
