
Tech Game In Atlanta Rescheduled For Wednesday

ATHENS----- Due to inclement weather and field conditions, today's University of Georgia baseball game against Georgia Tech in Atlanta has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 25 at 7 p.m. at Russ Chandler Stadium.Â

The 20th ranked Bulldogs (27-13) have won four straight over Georgia Tech (22-19) after sweeping the series last year and then recording a 4-0 victory on April 3 this season in Athens. Georgia is aiming to win five in a row over Tech for the first time since a stretch from 1985-87.Â

The Bulldogs just became the first SEC team this season to play 11 consecutive games against ranked opponents, and they went 5-6. This week marks the first time in a month that Georgia will play four straight games against teams that are not ranked in the Top 25. After the Tech game, the Bulldogs play host to Tennessee (24-1, 7-11 SEC) starting Friday.

The probable pitching matchup for Wednesday will feature Bulldog freshman left-hander C.J. Smith (0-0, 0.00 ERA) versus Tech freshman left-hander Brant Hurter (4-2, 5.75 ERA). Hurter started against the Bulldogs earlier this season, going 6.1 innings and allowing three runs on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts in Georgia's 4-0 win. Four Bulldogs combined on a four-hit shutout with 14 strikeouts with Kevin Smith picking up the win in relief. He struck out a career-high nine in 4.1 innings. C.J. Smith will be making his second career start as a pitcher. Also, he has started seven games in centerfield, one as a DH and owns a .278 batting average with one home run and 3 RBI in 36 at bats.

Also of note, this year's Georgia-Ga. Tech baseball game at SunTrust Park, slated for May 8 at 7 p.m., will be televised live on the SEC Network. The neutral site game is also known the 16thannual Farmview Market Spring Classic that benefits Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. The Bulldogs hold a 10-5 edge in this event including an 8-7 win last season at SunTrust Park after 14 years at Turner Field.
