Interviews

ATHENS, Ga.---
For the fifth consecutive season the Georgia Bulldogs earned a series victory over South Carolina, defeating the Gamecocks 12-3 Saturday afternoon at Foley Field. The Bulldogs (17-6, 4-1) have now won 10 of their last 11 games and ride a four-game SEC win streak.

The Bulldogs had nine players each record a hit, RBI and score a run in their highest scoring output in SEC play this season.

Senior Keegan McGovern jump started the Georgia offense in the first inning blasting a two-run homerun to the opposite field giving the Bulldogs an early cushion behind freshman starting pitcher Emerson Hancock.

The Georgia bats continued their good work in the third inning using three consecutive hits with two outs. A triple by Cam Shepherd, a single by Adam Sasser and a long homerun to right field by second basemen L.J. Talley gave the Bulldogs a six-run advantage.

Hancock continued his good work on the mound stifling the Gamecock lineup surrendering just one run in six innings of work, striking out seven without walking a batter. In his first two SEC starts Hancock has tossed 13 innings allowing just four earned runs.

South Carolina (13-10, 1-4) scratched with solo tallies in the sixth, seventh and ninth innings on solo homeruns from Carlos Cortes, Jacob Olson and Hunter Taylor. The Gamecocks threatened for more in the seventh after two men reached with one-out, but Bulldog reliever Zac Kristofak fanned back-to-back hitters to end the Gamecock threat.

Georgia put the game out of reach in the bottom of the eighth inning exploding for six more insurance runs. The Bulldogs batted around and saw eight straight men reach base with two-outs. Catcher Mason Meadows started the hit parade with a leadoff double, Aaron Schunk followed with a triple and designated hitter Michael Curry launched his fourth homerun of the year bringing the final tally to 12 runs.

Dawg Tracks

-Emerson Hancock pitched 6 innings allowing just one run on five hits, tying his career high with seven strikeouts.
-Keegan McGovern's first inning homerun was his 10th of the season, making him the fourth Bulldog since 2009 with 10 home runs in a season.
-Adam Sasser's two-out RBI single in the third extended his hitting streak to eight games.
-Michael Curry's seventh inning single extended his hitting streak to nine games. Curry (2-for-4) launched an eighth inning home run, his fourth of the season.
-Aaron Schunk (4-for-4) tied his career high for hits in a game.

Coaches Corner

Ike Cousins Head Baseball Coach Scott Stricklin

On the team's dominant performance…

"We felt very good, these kids believed and worked really hard and one of the things we've been rallying around is these seniors. These seniors have worked really hard and they deserve an opportunity to go to the postseason and have a great year to go out on so that's what we've been rallying around."

On Freshman Emerson Hancock's outing:

"He was really good. He didn't have his best stuff, the velocity was there but they took some pretty good swings off of him and they had some loud outs. His breaking ball got a little better his command got better, he was able to throw that changeup and when 95-96 is going up on that board he's really good. I still don't think we've seen him with his best stuff yet which is scary. He keeps getting better and better and is a hard worker."

Player's Perspective

Sophomore Third Baseman Aaron Schunk

On the win…

"As a team we did exactly what we needed to do, we jumped out there early, we played good defense, our pitching was good, our hitting was all over it."

 Next Up

The Bulldogs will go for a series sweep Sunday at Foley Field with first pitch scheduled for 1:02 pm (SECN+).
