Trott Qualifies For Olympics For South Africa

DURBAN, South Africa --- Former Georgia swimmer Wendy Trott qualified for the Olympics on Sunday during the South African National Championships.
Trott, who completed her college eligibility last month, won the 800-meter freestyle title with a time of 8:30.61. During the prelims, Trott posted a time of 8:28.79, which is the 11th-fastest effort in the world this year. Trott was one of just four South African women to record the Olympic automatic qualifying standard during the championships.
Trott, a three-time NCAA and four-time SEC champion in the 1,650-yard freestyle, represented South Africa at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. She came in ninth in the 800-meter freestyle.
Georgia signee and Canada native Brittany MacLean has qualified for the Olympics. She went 4:06.08 in the 400-meter freestyle at the Canadian Trials in Montreal's Parc Olympique.
Georgia signee Matias Koski will represent Finland in the Olympics in the 1,500-meter freestyle. He won the event with a time of 15:09.17 at the Indianapolis Grand Prix. He has the 10th-fastest time in the world this year.
The Olympic Trials for the United States will be held June 25-July 2 at CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Neb. There are approximately 50 current, former and future Georgia swimmers scheduled to compete in the Trials.
The swimming portion of the Olympics in London will take place July 28-Aug. 4 in the Aquatics Centre.
